Hand Painted Prints

For the printed pieces in the collection I used watercolour paintings as inspiration. To try and recreate the free flowing look of watercolours, I hand painted the printed pieces. Initial tests of the hand painted designs were carried out on polycotton.

For initial inspiration i looked at watercolour painters: Bunny Griffeth, Derek McCrea, Diana Stuart, Doris Joa, Joyce Howard and Monet.

Sample Fabrics

A Small selection of woven and printed fabrics created towards the collection. The woven pieces were created using single jacquard weave with cotton weaves so the fabric would be lightwieght enough for spring/summer. For the printed pieces a combination of taffeta and chiffon were used.

Final Collection

A Bunch of Flowers....
The collection consists of elegant and clean lines; taking its inspiration from nature,   the water colours of Monet and vintage fashion designs from the 1960s and 1970s. The designs reflect nature; the muted colours of spring and summer reflected in water, the mixing of pattern and texture.

The collection is designed for spring or early summer, featuring light-weight coats, structured dresses and mix and match skirts and tops. The combination of both weave and print were designed to complement each other; to form a ‘mix and match’ collection.

The printed pieces were influenced by the bright, bold patterns of the late 1960s and 1970s. The more structured designs of the early 1960s influenced the woven pieces as well as the more muted colours. For both the print and weave, art was a major influence: the woven pieces from shaded pencil sketches and the print from water colour paintings.
